Though some sick or injured wild pandas have been taken captive for treatment and then released into the forest. China’s State Forestry Administration and Wolong Breeding Centre are developing a plan to reintroduce captive pandas to the wild. Studying captive pandas offers insights into their behaviour, to help giant pandas survive in the wild. Captive pandas can also be used to educate the public and raise funds for wild panda conservation.
