As you mentioned, different types of acne are treated differently. For blackheads, you want either over the counter salcylic acid products for sensitive skin (use at night because you can get a rash from sun) or a prescription of Retin-A type product. For pustular acne, you want either benzoyl peroxide products over the counter in the AM or something prescription such as clindagel, which has an antibiotic in it to reduce inflammation and keep acne bacteria at bay and benzoyl peroxide in it. Cystic type acne needs an antibiotic, period. Tetracycline has been used for years and can be very helpful. Give your acne products one month. If you don’t see a large improvement, go to your family doctor or dermatologist. You can also get a “comedone extractor” from your pharmacist to push out the blackheads.
