How do genetically modified foods work?
Scientists (biotechnologists and biochemists) have altered the DNA structure (genetic material) of crops (genetic engineering) by identifying the desirable features from one particular species, and then cutting by a restriction enzyme, and then inserting desirable trait into the other species so the GM crops and foods can reproduce with the desirable features. These desirable features could be genes that code for resistance to disease, such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi (or mould) on the food or crop, or improving the taste of the food or crop by selecting the best gene for good taste, or even having a good effect on health, such as humans’ immune system being boosted from a particular gene that fights diseases, and etc.
