How do genes and environmental exposures interact in ASDs?
Genes may contribute to a child’s diagnosis of autism or other ASD, not because they directly influence the developing nervous system, but because they affect the child’s biologic response to an environmental exposure that dysregulates the developing brain (see Epidemiologic Approaches to Autism and the Environment by Craig J.
