How do fatty stains develop on leather?
Inadequate distribution and saponification of natural fat in beamhouse processing, inadequate degreasing, use of unstable fatliquoring agents, large quantities of untreated neutral oils result in fatty stains on the leather surface. These stains are visible in all sections of leather or in certain areas as dark, oily patches. In the cattle hides they occur mainly in the region of kidneys and in sheep skins almost all over the skin. To avoid fatty stains, the pelts should be properly degreased and correct formulation of fatliquoring is necessary.
