How do events in SL differ from the norm?
• They may be less formal; don’t be surprised to see educators in unusual avatars, e.g. animals. • It is common to use text chat as a backchannel where presenters are using voice. However, it is advisable to confirm this at the session. • You have a record of text chat that you can archive for personal use in the chat history window. • Voice can be tricky to setup so it is best to allow some time for this before a session. • Remember that normal text chat and voice only carry a finite distance though you can elect to hear voice from the position of the avatar camera. • While notionally frowned on, Powerpoint-style presentations are a staple and sometimes large images may take time to appear. • Busy locations can take time to render so don’t be surprised if you end up sitting on another avatar’s lap!
