How do Educational Parent Support Groups work?
Education parent support groups have no start or end date, so parents can join at any time. Any parent who would like to: improve their parenting skills; meet other parents going through similar situations; and/or is required to complete a program for court/social services purposes, is welcome to attend and will benefit greatly from this program. At each group session, a trained SCAN facilitator will give a presentation on a relevant parenting topic. For example: appropriate and effective discipline, working with difficult children, child developmental stages, or managing anger and stress. The parents are then given an opportunity to discuss how this topic is relevant to their lives and how they can implement the skills and knowledge presented during the meeting in their daily life.
