How do eagles teach their young to fly?
From what I understand, some birds just shove their babies out of the nest when they get old enough. But the majority of birds (including eagles) let their babies stay until they have gotten enough practice to leave the nest permanently. I think the main difference with eagles has to do with the remote location of the nest. Many birds will try to fly before they are ready and are often carried back to the nest by the parent. Eagles can’t do this because a fall from the nest would mean death since the nest is generally so high up. So eagles practice hovering over the nest for longer and longer periods for a couple of months until they are ready to actually fly.
