How do doctors diagnose cystic fibrosis?
Doctors review simple genetic tests, mainly chromosome 7. If chromosome 7 is missing 3 ‘ladder steps’ then the patient has CF. They can also review what their lungs are like. If the lungs contain more mucus than normal, then that could be the cause of CF. CF is basically a rare genetic disorder that has the lungs containing more mucus than regular lungs. Many CF patients die waiting for a lung transplant.
