How do CRISPs relate to Responsible Actions: A Plan for Alberta’s Oil Sands?
The development of each CRISP will assist in achieving the province’s new vision for oil sands outlined in Responsible Actions: A Plan for Alberta’s Oil Sands. It is a key implementation activity under Strategy 2, which is to “Promote healthy communities and a quality of life that attracts and retains individuals, families and businesses.” Will CRISPs identify when the infrastructure will be built? Each CRISP will identify what infrastructure will be needed based on incremental population growth and oil sands production levels to a maximum of 6 million barrels per day (the estimated amount that potentially could be reached by the year 2045), and will recommend the sequence in which the infrastructure should be developed. It is difficult to predict when certain population and oil sands production levels will be reached in the oils sands areas due to the changing nature of oil sands development.
