How do creationists explain away the mountains of evidence for evolution and a very old earth?
There are people that think the moon landing was done on a Hollywood sound stage. There are people that truly believe that we have been visited by aliens from other planets and the government is covering it up. Creationism is the ultimate conspiracy theory. In order to believe that evolution is false you have to believe that every credible scientist and geologist on the planet is conspiring to take down your religion. You have to believe that every center of higher learning is dedicated to nothing more than falsifying evidence and proving that the Bible is inaccurate. These people make Oliver Stone look like a Pollyanna, You cant argue against that kind of delusional thinking. You can just make sure that they stay the hell away from our children. Just for the record, the vast majority of Christians, both layperson and clergy, have no problem with the Theory of Evolution and do not take the biblical story of Genesis literally.
