How do Costalots stand out in a world of oversized and overpriced sunglasses?
The whole concept behind the line is taking an object meant for a certain purpose and re-imagining it as something different. It’s almost as if these frames weren’t designed at all; they are clunky, utilitarian safety glasses that happen to be in style right now. Some of the designs I use have been in production for over 50 years, and that’s definitely appealing to me; the idea of taking something classic and putting it in a new context. I don’t keep pace with trends, and I feel like these sunglasses bear a longer lifespan than their competitors. So, rose-colored lenses huh? I use brown lenses with a touch of red, as opposed to most sunglasses that use a gray base. I really like the way they compliment the dark frames, and they happen to be nice to look through. Every color pops, but not in an obnoxious way. You can select any lens you want, whether it’s no tint or a full gradient. I like to play with different tints and transition lenses. Matt Costa.
