How do Computer Microphones Work?

Electrical Conversion A microphone “hears” sounds by detecting pressure in the air. When you speak toward a microphone, it creates waves of pressure in the air, which moves a screen in the microphone. When pressure is exerted on this screen, it generates electrical signals which are sent through the microphone into the computer. The signal is interpreted by your computer and turned back into sound for the application you are using.
