How do Computer Microphones Work?
Microphone Usage PC microphones are one of the most affordable and useful computer peripherals available. Many laptops come equipped with these microphones or they can be purchased cheaply. Once you have a microphone, you can interact with many programs using it, such as chat programs and speech-recognition software. Electrical Conversion A microphone “hears” sounds by detecting pressure in the air. When you speak toward a microphone, it creates waves of pressure in the air, which moves a screen in the microphone. When pressure is exerted on this screen, it generates electrical signals which are sent through the microphone into the computer. The signal is interpreted by your computer and turned back into sound for the application you are using. One advantage of turning this sound into electrical signals is that the computer can replicate the sound exactly as it “heard” it, so the sound can be replayed at will. Some microphones include wind-screens, small foam covers for the pressure sc
