How do computer experts know when a new virus is coming on a specific date?
If you’re talking about Confiker (which you are, since that’s what is on the Yahoo home page), the people investigating are always examining what the code does, and what it can do. In the code, there is strong evidence that April 1, 2009 is when it will link up to the “mothership” of the worm. From there, it’s anyone’s guess as to what happens….the problem is that no one knows what the worm’s headquarters will do, if anything. In all likelihood, nothing major will happen…although I don’t know too many computer guys who are taking the chance (myself included). Most have beefed up security and run scans on all their systems.
