A. Code officials must complete a basic training program consisting of five courses, each 24 hours long. The Codes Division offers these courses free of charge at various locations throughout the state. The program must be completed within one year after initial appointment as a code official. Courses can be waived by the State Fire Administrator for individuals who have successfully completed equivalent courses or have verifiable experience providing for an equivalent level of knowledge.
