How do circus people swallow fire without injuring themselves?
I was in the circus 20 years ago and I was tought by a couple of different people and the skinny is there’s no real trick. You actually put a gauze ‘ball’ wrapped around a long fondue fork dipped in colman’s fuel. This BTW is NOT an endoresement nor am I telling you you should try this on your own. When I learned my teachers were spotting me and made sure I didn’t set any part of me on fire. Which is a real possibility so please DO NOT TRY THIS A HOME! That being said. You had to put your head all the way back so that your mouth is open directly up, then as the lit torch goes in your mouth the flames should be going straight up away from you. The fork should be long enough so your hands don’t get burned (The size of the ball should be no larger than the width of your thumb). Put the flame ball just far enough in your mouth to allow your lips to wrap around the base of the ball to extinguish the flame, DO NOT PUT YOUR LIPS ON THE METAL OF THE FORK!
