How do christians explain their “God” originating from a Pagan god?

The Christian God did not originate from a pagan god. The Christian God, was is and always will be so he could not have orginated from any other entity. On the other hand, there are many Christian practices which co-incide with ancient "pagan" rituals. The reason for this is quite simple: it’s hard to get people to change their beliefs/practices. In the early days of christianity, the priests purposefully chose "pagan" holidays as days of religious observance, to draw the people away from their pagan rituals. Religious leaders of old realized in order to compete with "pagan" rituals and ideals, they had to offer an adequate substitution, so they began holding their own celebrations on or around these dates. A prime example of this is the celebration of Easter. Christians celebrate Easter as the time when Jesus rose from the dead. Easter, even in modern times is 40 days after the vernal equinox or Winter’s Solstice, which any farmer can tell you marks the beginning of spring. A Time of renewal, of rebirth of the earth and the people.  That this time marks the arrival of spring and celebrates a "pagan"event does not diminish the importance of this holiday to Christians. Indeed it lends credence, reinforces our beliefs as Christians. Without spring the seeds planted by the farmer cannot germinate and grow. Without Jesus’ death and resurrection, christianity would not have been able to develop and grow into what it is today. Works out perfectly!

easy – god is a life force/force of maths/physics – same pagan god (mother earth/environment etc) christian holidays aren’t like birthdays where they have to be kept on the same day – they are more like milestones or anniversaries – days to be remembered (christmas – different depending on which religion, due to culture and feast days/harvest days etc) if you look at it from a more scientific/academic background on faith rather than cultural religion, it makes more sense
