How do characters communicate if they don speak the same language?
One of the species that has come through the rift is the Babel fish, from Douglas Adam’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. All characters who arrive at the observatory have a Babel fish inserted into their ear, which allows them to understand any other language as if it’s their own. Of course, they won’t remember this happening.
