How do Chameleons change color?
Chamelons have several cell layers beneath its transparent skin. Some layers contain pigments, while others just reflect light to create new colors. Chamelons do not change color to match their environment — light, temperature, and emotional state commonly bring about a chameleon’s change in color, usually between green, brown and gray, which coincidently often matches their habitat.
