How do British Police catch criminals without guns?
We don’t need guns. In the overwhelming majority of arrests we do not need to use any force (including Baton or CS Spray. We do not have the gun culture enjoyed in the states and it is unusual for guns to be used in crime here. Where a firearm is used in crime we have armed repsonse vehicles with firearms on board who will respond. They are always fairly close by. We are not an unarmed Police force, we are just not routinely armed. For dangerous and aggressive prisoners we have Tasers and Police Support Units (Riot Police who usually work as response and patrol but are called when needed) who are trained and equipped to a higher level for entering buildings and detaining people. Don’t feel sorry for us I have never felt the need for a firearm and the vast majority of my colleagues feel the same!
