How Do Benzodiazepines Work in the Brain?
All benzodiazepines have basically the same structure and work in relatively the same way by interacting with the GABAA receptor. They differ from one another in the way they are absorbed, metabolized, and excreted by the body. Benzodiazepines act on the amygdala to reduce anxiety. However, benzodiazepines do not solely affect the output region of the amygdale (the central nucleus).
