How do baked beans grow?
They are a type of French bean, (haricot) instead of being picked and eaten green, they are allowed to stay on the plant until ripe. When the outer shell (the green fleshy bit you eat as green bean) has dried and crisp, the beans (seeds) are removed, dried completely and stored, or sent off to use for baked beans in tomato sauce. You can buy dried haricot beans if you fancy having a go at making your own baked beans.
