How do average annual salaries for teachers in Nebraska compare to other states?
The map on this page displays the average annual salaries for kindergarten through high school teachers for nearly all fifty states (data for Nevada and the District of Columbia were unavailable.) Not included in the averages were salaries of vocational or special education teachers. The map shows the average annual salaries based on the 2000 Occupational Employment Statistics Survey, conducted by the Nebraska Labor Market Information Center in cooperation with the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nebraska’s average annual teacher salary ranked 31st out of 49 states (again, Nevada and D.C. were not available.) That ranking put Nebraska in the lower half of all states but better than several of its next-door neighbors. The lowest average salaries were generally in the Midwest and Southern regions while the highest average salaries were found mostly in the Northeast.
