How do animals use their senses?
While students are investigating animals senses, have them compile their own information books. On one page they write a statement about the sense and on the other, give an example. Students can write their own statement for each sense or be given statements to find examples for. They add to the book throughout the unit. Students will need to include information about: the animal its habitat the senses it uses to move about the senses it uses to find food the senses it uses to communicate with other living things how the use of these senses help the animal survive in its habitat. Model the timeless present tense used to report this type of information. It may be necessary to provide the structures, for example: A —– lives in —–. A —– uses its —- to move around. A —– uses its —- to find food.
