How Do Airport Runways Get Their Numbersthey Don Seem To Be In A Logical Numerical Order?

runways are numbered according to their compass heading for example if you have a runway that runs directly north and south , and you approach it from the south you will be landing on runway 36 or 360 which is due north on the compass (for simplicity sake though the 0’s are always dropped , take the same runway and you are approaching from the north , it will now be runway 18 (or due south) another case in point runway runs east west , from the east it would be runway 27 ( or due west , and from the west it would be runway 9 (or 90 for due east ) this is done worldwide so pilots know which heading to take for landings in poor visibility
