How do actors start crying?
Different actors do it different ways – some are technical while others draw on an emotion from their own life that makes them tear up – have you read a book or story and found yourself crying because the situation seemed especially horrible to you? If you are training to express emotions, then you keep that in reserve. And of course, acting circumstances vary. Stage actors where the tears can’t be seen from the audience don’t need to cry, but do need to get the tone in their voice and show red around the eyes – which can come from just rubbing away the ‘tears’. TV and Film actors with closeups may be able to draw on the reserves, but the director is likely to have a backup in the form of glycerin to guarantee the drops on time.
