First both you and your opponent choose your two Pokemon to send out for battle. When you attack, your Pokemon move up and down to indicate which Pokemon you are using at that point. Each Pokemon gets to attack and the attack order goes from fastest Pokemon to slowest. Some attacks like Surf can also hit to Pokemon simultaneously.
