How difficult is the process to tap a Sugar Maple tree?
Tapping itself is very easy, although experience helps. My parents tap about 80 trees. Our uncle next door had a bigger operation. My siblings, cousins and I had sugaring duties throughout childhood. The real labor consists of getting the sap to the evaporator, cutting and stacking the firewood a year or two in advance, maintaining the tubing if you use it, evaporating the syrup, and bottling it. Managing the woodlot and selling the syrup take effort too.
