It is relatively easy. Straw bale construction is becoming more widely known. Many building officials have some knowledge of straw bale construction. We highly recommend that you approach the building officials in the municipality where you are thinking about buying property before actually buying the property. If they tell you that they will never consider approving a straw bale house you may want to consider taking your building permit fees, your development fees, your road access fees, a lifetime of 911 fees, school and property taxes to the next municipality over. In most cases with some gentle persuasion and a lot of work to educate a building official who doesn’t know about straw bale construction you can convince them that it will work and get your building permit.
