How different are security issues on the TS from security issues in general purpose servers?

As mentioned above, purpose-specific appliances are generally more secure than general purpose servers. Appliances can disable most of the services and options used by hackers to invade the system. The Cyclades-TS is an out-of-band management equipment. While access to server consoles is very security-sensitive, the TS does not store sensitive data locally and it is not in the data path. “Denial of Service” attacks on the TS, for example, while an undesirable inconvenient, are unlikely to cause an immediate security breach or an interruption in the operation. Those differences must be taken in account when analyzing a possible system vulnerability in the scope of a Console Server.
