How did WWII help or benefit women?

To be honest, the belief that WWII greatly aided women is a myth. Before the war about 20% of women worked, during the war that number only jumped up to 25%. Although some women were given jobs in areas they would not have been before the war, they were reminded by posters everyday that their position would not be permanent. Some women did gain independence from the war, but they gained it because their husbands died, and they had to take over everything in order to keep their families going. But, to actually answer your question, I would put altruistically, due to the sacrifices they had to make, and the workload, and the unfairness. Even if it was done by fewer than usually believed, it still deserves recognition as being a patriotic, benevolent effort.
