How did World War II end the Great Depression?
The U.S. government spent massive amounts of money (mostly on debt) during World War II. The production of war materials and weapons put many people in the private sector back to work. The government also employed millions of people who served in the military. As a result of these actions, the unemplyment rate fell from 14.6 percent in 1940 to 1.2 in 1944.
