How did world war 1 weapons affect the fighting in world war 1?
Tactics that had worked very well in previous wars (fast-moving “foot-cavalry,” and bayonet charges a la the Franco-Prussian War) suddenly became very costly when you were faced with machine guns. As for moving quickly in mobile war, artillery and barbed wire saw to it that WW1 became a static war of attrition in the trenches.
