How did working with Pat Holden compare with someone like Martin Scorsese?
“It’s the same enthusiasm. When I get involved with something it’s the script that gets me. Obviously it’s great to work with directors like Martin Scorsese and Shane Meadows, and Pat was lovely to work with, he really understood the story. He had a nice clear view of what he wanted to do but he’s still prepared to play with it on the day and come up with ideas and create little things. It’s a sharing process really and luckily I’ve worked with directors who aren’t… I’ve heard stories of certain directors who are very obsessive and say ‘you can’t do this and you can’t do that’ – but I’ve been lucky enough to make it a creative experience with the directors I’ve worked with.” You were in another football film The Damned United this year. How was that experience? “To me that wasn’t a job, that was 16 lads playing footie all day then going to the pub after work because the director wanted them to get to know each other.
