How did womens rights change after the Civil War?
Women after the civil war became more active politically. Many had fought for abolition and when the black man was givin the right to vote, the women were like, “what about us?” Before the civil war there is what is called a “seperation of spheres.” In one sphere you had the domestic. Women ruled this sphere and is was very tranquil. The other sphere was the social sphere which was for the men and involved drinking, politics, fighting, and work. After the Civil War, Women began to emerge in the social sphere and defy the gender laws. Now they were handing out brochures and holding conventions to get the rights such as suffrage.
