How did Travel Genie start?
In 1985 we (Warren and Elaine Larson) started a map store in Ames, Iowa partly because we had worked on our own family histories and found wonderful detailed maps overseas of the areas in which we were interested (primarily Norway and Germany for our ancestry). We wanted to make these maps readily available in the U.S. We sold the general bookstore/travel store in 1995, but retained the name Travel Genie Maps and the portion of the business that now sells the detailed sectional maps of Norway.
