How did the tradition of making New Years resolutions originate?
The tradition of making New Year’s resolutions originated with this ancient idea: In 153 BC, a mythological symbol or god was placed at the helm of the Greco-Roman Calendar. Yet, this document presented problems of clarity because of its proposed length; and so, a little less than 100 years later, in 46 BC, Julius Caesar issued a proclamation that year which shortened the calendar to twelve official months; and thus, renaming the first month after Janus, the Roman god of gates and doors, of entrances and exists, and shortening January to 31 days as we have come to know it today.
