How did the theory of continental drift/ plate tectonics change society?
The theory of continental drift was raised by Alfred Wegener in his book(the origin of continents and oceans),in which he set out evidence for continental drift in terms of continental fit.He hypothesized that the present continents were once conjoined in a supercontinent called Pangaea. He believed that mantle convection acted as the driving force of the whole Pangaea extension. But then many scientist did not believe the theory, because they could see no way in which earth can move.It is only since the 1950s that evidence from exploration of the sea floor and remnant magnetism has led to the acceptance of continental drift.
