Magnetic tape degrades over time- it should have been too damaged to use by the time the ships went out, much less 700 years later. • Maybe Wall-E figured out how to make new tape and copy it. • Or is has degraded and that’s why it only plays the two songs(Put on Your Sunday Clothes and It Only Takes a Moment) skipping a huge portion of the original film.
