How did the steamboat change society?
Well, think about the types of boats that were use prior to the steamboat. Ships had to rely on natural forces such as wind and water current to move. This prevented large vessels from travelling upstream. Smaller vessels relied on oars. The steamboat provided a ship with its own energy, allowing vessels to flow against a current and against the wind. This also provided faster transportation of goods and people.
