How did the song Magic Carpet Ride come about?
I’m a big fan of Asha Bhosle. When I heard her sing Dum Maro Dum, a song I fell in love with, at the Barbican in London and saw the crowd going wild, I was inspired to write a song which celebrated some of those elements. Andrew [T Mackay] and Garry [Hughes] from the Bombay Dub Orchestra had some ideas – we worked together for a few days and voila, Magic Carpet Ride was born. The song has been produced by Bombay Dub Orchestra. What is it like working with them? Garry and Andrew are so much fun to work with and so incredibly inspiring with their progressive ideas – they brought the exoticism I was looking for to the track and mixed it beautifully with mainstream pop ideas. I then took it to legendary pop producer, Johnny Douglas for additional production and he worked even more magic on the track.
