Constructivism built upon two previous mostly Russian art movements; Suprematism and Cubo-Futurism. The October Revolution inspired the constructivist in their work by opening up a whole realm of possibilities. In the early stages of the revolution serious debate was given to what kind of society communism was going to bring and to the means of bringing the new society into being. some considered abolishing money, others sought to abandon the traditional family in favour of communal living, it was, for many, an exciting time to be alive. The constructivists were also imbued with this sense of optimism about the future.
