How did the rivalry between the redskins vs cowboys begin?
back in the late 50s the redskins were the most popular team for southerners and the redskins owner was opposed to adding an expansion team to dallas, TX (his vote was needed for the team to begin). the founders of the cowboys bought the rights to the redskins battle song “heil to the redskins” and refused to let the redskins play it during their games unless the owner approved of the new expansion team. the skins owner caved in and the cowboys expansion team got started for the 1960 season and immediately began dominating the older redskins team in the capitol division and the later NFC east. then george allen became the redskins coach and he elevated the rivalry to a new level by inspiring his team to beat the cowboys at all costs and encouraged his players to start personal vendettas against the more famous cowboys players and he made the cowboys coaches so paranoid that they would have ultra secure practice sessions before redskins games due to fears of allen’s spies. the rivalry h
