How did the ride with Joe Gibbs Racing come about?
Nick: They called me the Tuesday before Steel City and explained the situation and offered me the ride. I flew out that same night and got on the bike for the first time on Wednesday and then raced it on Saturday. Following Loretta’s I was planning to be here at Pala as a privateer on my Suzuki and in the 250 class so this is all still quite a surprise for me. MXA: You must’ve been pretty exciteded to get the call. Nick: I was especially after Loretta’s where my best finish was a sixth and that bummed me out because I think even though I won at Mammoth a lot of people wrote me off after Loretta’s. MXA: You rode great at Steel City and finished in the top ten – how was that? Nick: I was really excited about being there and even more excited afterwards. My parents flew out for the race so that helped calm me down. All the JGR guys have been awesome and they’ve treated me great.
