After the French and Indian War England raised taxes on the colony in order to make up for their loss in revenues. England believed the American colony should pay for the protection that the crown gave them during that war….the colonists thought they should have a voice in parliament if they were to pay taxes (no taxation without representation) They wanted representation as a part of England of course not a lesser colony. And of course the infamous tea tax set the colonists off…and in 1773 the Sons of Liberty, a revolutionary politicaL group dumped English merchant’s tea into Boston Harbour.
