The BIP helped schools and teachers change their approaches to the management of pupils’ behaviour to make them more strategic and integrated, including: • raising the profile of behaviour management and pastoral care in their school • adopting a more consistent and structured whole-school policy for dealing with poor or concerning behaviour • encouraging teachers to believe that they could change things for the better (improved general efficacy). School leaders and teachers began to give behaviour policies the same status as the national literacy and numeracy strategies.
