how did the portico start?
What a great question! For several years a number of our core leaders have prayed and dreamed of creating an atmosphere for collegiates and young adults to gather for worship and discipleship and to mobilize to serve. The Portico met at Highland ParkBaptist Church in its inception and was known as Encounter. After 4 months at Highland Park, we moved to First Baptist Church West Monroe, where we have moved buildings three times. We found our permanent home in the AXIS Building in June of 2002. This location provides us with exceptional technology, comfortable meeting and lounge areas, and a cafe for food and coffee service. Over the past two years, our worship experience has taken many different forms but has constantly held to one goal: to share the story of Jesus Christ in real and relevant ways.
