How did the popcorn test come about (RNY only)?
When Dr. Fobi, a famous bariatric surgeon, was performing gastroplasty operations, he observed patients who would vomit after eating or drinking any type of food or liquid but not popcorn. These patients have radiologically and endoscopically normal stomas but presented with symptoms of outlet stenosis. These patients ate fast, did not chew the foods well, gulped their drinks or did not respond to the feeling of satiety during eating. These patients are best not treated surgically, but by counseling.
