How did the name change issue come about?
Aware that there was confusion regarding the two universities and that the confusion was negatively affecting UHD, former UHD President Max Castillo asked the Board of Regent to consider changing the name more than two years ago. The Regents voted to change the name in December 2008, but asked UHD to look at other names. In fall 2009 after President Bill Flores arrived, began working with a nationally known consulting firm that specializes in higher education. That firm, Stamats, has been collecting insights from all of UHD’s constituent groups related to the University’s name change initiative.
