How did the June Carter Cash album Wildwood Flower, due for release in September, come about?
When Risk Records folded (the label that originally did Press On), we approached June about picking it up and started discussions then about a new album. She was sold on us, and we were definitely on her so it made sense. The best part of this story is that the first time Scott and I went out to her and Johnny’s house to talk about a new record, we had lunch and then moved into their living room. June got out her autoharp, Carlene her guitar and Johnny and June proceeded to sing us songs for an hour. Just the two of us in Johnny and June’s living room listening to them sing old Carter family songs just to us. Un- freakin’ believable!” June just finished recording Wildwood Flower a month before she passed away this year. We lost an American treasure with her passing and it’s with a combination of sadness and pleasure that we’re releasing Wildwood Flower.
